Computers, Internet & Communication
Your UK computer will work fine in Spain, you just need a European plug
for it (You can get them in Spanisch electronic-shops in and arround Chiclana LINK).
If you need to buy a Spanish Computer, you could get the same facilities here
although the Operating System will be in Spanish language (Just some shops offer an
English OS). Be carefull with small spanish shops, not speaking any English,
they can not help you, if you will have an trouble with you PC, ask friends or
your estate agent to recommend you an established English speaking PC-Service.

You can use some on internet-by-call, at some you have to register.
Nearly all of them offering flatrates (day, night, 24h). Ask you local
PC-Expert.

Broadband/ADSL
ADSL availability is dependant on where you live, but the town centres,
urbanisations and areas with a lot of legal houses will have the availability.
You can order by phone, online or at your local
PC- or SAT-Service.
Costs depend on ISP but will be around 35 euros/month. You may have to wait 14-21 day for the
ISP to get permission from Telefonica to use the line (unless the ISP is Telefonica!)
this also incurs a charge from Telefonica. Many ISPs now offer local & national
phone calls bundled into an ADSL service.
Broadband/Satellite
If you have no possibility to get ADSL in Areas where the service is not
available, you could get broadband over satelite: this means INCOMING FILES
over satelite-dish (you need an additional dish for ASTRA) OUTGOING FILES
over telephone. There are two companies offering this service:
Ya.com and Europe-Online. For more details ask your local
PC-Service.
Internet (and telephone) over satellite
Offered as a high speed alternative for those without a phone line, but is
much more expensive than ADSL. Setup costs 2500-3000 , monthly costs arround
150 .

Internet over GPRS
If your mobile includes GPRS you can use it as a modem. All Spanish Providers
offer prepaid or a contract. You pay for the amount of data not for the time you
are online. More expensive than a normal dial up but better than nothing. Speed
is less than dial-up, but OK. Speed is less than dial-up, but OK. Speak about it
with your local PC-Service.
Internet over WIFI
An internet signal is broadcasted from a hotspot, so you will have access in
an area of some kilometers around the antenna, you need buy the pc-card for your
PC and log in. You could also share the broadband with you neighbour over WiFi,
therefore ask your local PC-Service.
Internet-Cafe
The cheapest way to contact friends at home (if you are waiting for your phone
line to be installed) is to using a Internet-Cafes in:
